Bug-a-Salt, the Original Salt Gun

WHAT IS IT?
Bug-a-salt has created an inexpensive pump-action shotgun that kills insects with a blast of regular old table salt. Now that insect hunting is becoming an increasingly popular sport, we wish there was a sniper rifle model to enter the fray.

WHY IS IT RELEVANT?
While not exactly cutting-edge tech, I find the idea and its use of materials elegant and economical – and the video is funny-cool! Given the rate at which we’re consuming our earth’s energy resources, ingenious “low-tech” solutions may become the new “high-tech” answers in the not-so-distant future. Solutions such as Victor Papanek’s transistor radio, made from ordinary metal food cans and powered by a burning candle, and the “Liter of Light” hint at such a future.
