Cold War Kids – 256 tracks for the price of one?
Jul 8, 2009 | Tech News
An innovative and highly enjoyable online only video for their new release ‘I’ve Seen Enough!’ from the Cold War Kids.
Each band member has recorded 4 separate color coded tracks for the song in 4 unique styles. With one click you can switch between the tracks to create a version that pleases your ear with 256 potential combinations.
This is by far and away one of the most compelling audio / visual ‘mixing’ mashups I’ve seen in a while and kudos to Tool of North America for putting it together.
We’ve been talking to a number of companies making some real headway in thinking about the evolution of music formats and it’s not hard to imagine these kind of ‘your music, your way’ becoming the predominant form of both packaging and consuming music. If I’m running I might want a faster based version. Chilling out an acoustic rendition. I might want to blend two tunes together to create my own mashup or play along with one of the band playing rockband. Lot of innovation left in this space and great to see some of this vision articulated so well.
