OUYA: A new gaming experience
Jul 11, 2012 | Tech News
WHAT IS IT?
OUYA is a new game console for the TV, powered by Android. It’s an open system design, with industrial design by Yves Behar.
WHY IS IT RELEVANT?
There appears to be a continuing rise in popularity for open systems. Kinect is one example. And even with closed systems, like the iPhone, jail breaking them has become increasingly common. An MIT Media Lab article asserts that Android and Kinect are the platforms of the future. This makes sense to me. If you want more innovation to occur, you need more open systems that more people can access at low cost. Keep in mind that Facebook and Twitter were initially built on open source systems. Look at where they are now.
