Companies like Narrative Science are building algorithms that can mimic human writing to the point where readers cannot tell if a news piece is written by a man or a machine.

We have handed different aspects of our lives over to machines, entrusting them to do the right thing. Think of the different financial trading systems or various safety systems in your car. And computers can sift through large amounts of data and collect facts more efficiently than a human. Will machines become a more trusted news source than people? Will they be viewed as more “objective” in their reporting? Once you can mimic human writing, why not mimic the styles of the most popular or esteemed writers? Will algorithms begins winning Pulitzers, Peabodys, or the National Book Awards?
