The Exquisite Forest
WHAT IS IT?
An online collaborative art project, by Aaron Koblin and Chris Milk, that lets users create short animations that build off one another as they explore a specific theme. The result is a collection of branching narratives resembling trees.
WHY IS IT RELEVANT?
As creative tools become both more sophisticated and accessible, crowdsourcing may lead to new and unexpected ways of producing innovative art and entertainment. While projects like The New Kind and Iron Sky may not yet quite hit the quality bar that audiences are used to, they are receiving greater attention. Who knows? Over time, we may one day have more anticipation for a crowdsourced movie than for the next Christopher Nolan film.
